    Voltage Drop

    Hi everyone,
i have a 1993 defender 200tdi. whenever i let the handbrake off the voltage drops, pull it back on and it picks back up to normal. as a result i have been getting odd readings in my temp gauge. i disconected the sender wire for the handbrake and it still does exactlly the same thing.
anyone comje across the same scenario. any help would be much appreciated.
    thanks matt.

primary earths to the engine have become suspect and it is now earthing through the handbrake cable.

if you dont fix it eventually the handbrake cable will either weld itself to the sheath OR will burn through.

It could also be the park brake light switch has gone to dead short.

    Hi Molive

When you apply the hand brake the switch (on hand brake)earths and allows the dash lamp to light up but when you release the hand brake there is a high resistance in the wire to the dash globe. You will have to check this wire for damage eg pinched ,fractured insulation etc

    hope this helps

The following is an article intended for northern hemisphere landies that drive on salted roads with resulting underbody rust. They have worse earthing issues than us.

It may still give you an idea of which places/connections to check
