D2 TD5 fuel pump no noise

    Hi all,

yesterday, coming home from work Disco 00my TD5 auto was missing badly & had no power - couldn't get above 60kph. This morning I switched it on & no noise from the pump at all. still missing at idle. So I guess there is only one answer - new fuel pump - the two fuses for fuel I can find are ok. it's done 186K so i guess its due.

    Anything else to check.

    regards
    Steve

Looks like you found it Steve, not uncommon at those K's, some get nowhere near that many.

When ordering a new pump, get the rubber pump assembly to tank top seal too They don't come with it.

The pump comes out through the floor in the back, hope you don't have roller drawers etc

No need to pull all the interior trim out, prise up the plastic runner over the top of the rear scuff plate and the screws holding it down are visible, remove scuff plate and lift carpet etc to reveal inspection hole. You will find if you snip the edges of the carpet where they go under the side storage bins or seats if you have them, you can save removing all the side and roof trim etc etc. Don't worry, the carpet goes back in easily and looks the same.

Should take less than an hour.

Thanks for the info JC. I would have thought the pump would come with the rubber seal.

I dont feel like pulling the side bins out, so I'll snip the carpet along the sides.

    thanks for the help

When I say snip, it is only a small 'strap' of carpet that causes a problem, at the rear portion of the side bin.

Just begin to pull the carpet and you will see it. I use a stanley knife and cut in under to ensure it tucks well in afterward.
