    Dangers of aerostart

I've read on here its not a good idea to use aerostart on a diesel. I'm trying to start an indirect injection aspirated 6cyl, it hadn't run for over a year until a month back, now it won't start at all. I've got fuel at the injectors, glow plugs are working (hotwired directly), battery is well charged, valve clearances and compression is right, still won't go.

As a last resort, is it safe to use aerostart providing you spray it whilst the engine is cranking and dont use glow plugs?

It is safe to use on a non running engine.Give the intake a one second squirt, don't use the glow plugs and kick it over. Pat

This I've heard, but I really don't understand the reasoning behind it.

*Edit ok I understand that now. Seems that WD40 might be better as it at least imparts some lubrication.

Ive seen Aerostart used to great sucses in shearing sheds.
When the rams were playing up a good squirt of aerostart into a rag and hold it over their nose, one lazy well behaved ram.
Thesedays most rams are given a needle to sedate them for shearing.

NTC & NTA Cummins were provided with an ether based cold start system ex factory. you would not get a cold soaked one to start without on a Melbourne winter's morning.

Just give it a squirt of aerostart. The reason you don't use it on a running engine is it'll cause it to knock,it's the hit it gives that gets the next cylinder to fire which gets the next one going etc etc. Pat

Don't spray to much though, aerostarting an indirect injected diesel to get it to fire will cause it to pre-ignite, like trying to start a petrol with to much timing advance.....well thats my experience anyway
