    TDI head gaskets

    Hi,


    can anyone provide some information on what is an advisable mileage to change the head gasket on the 300 TDI defender engines and what is the best gasket ie Elring or the steel shim Cometik. I have been advised that beyond 220 - 250k they need a change of gasket as precautionary maintenance.

    The Elring is what I adhere to, the steel shim type require an EXEMPLARY block surface condition, IMHO there is no advantage of steel shim type unless using 20psi boost etc, so use an Elring one.

    250K is a good interval.
