So where are all the suspesion experts I see, talking about the best shocks and springs![]()
When setting up your shock to suit your springs, is there a different vavle ratting for a mono tube shock over a twin tube shock, speaking to a shop I had some shocks re-valved at, which was wrong, I asked could they be rated to the same spec as my old Bilsteins were (400/100) my current shocks are custom made with a valving of 140/275, which are extremely harsh and give a bloody terrible ride.
So am I wrong in saying that this does not sound right too me, why would the valving be any different just because one is mono tube and the other twin tube.
I should add that I have asked to have them revalved, this was when I got the statement that the rating would be different if I was to have them revalved to match 400/100 valving.

I have nakkered OME shockies - dented from my spectacular driving not worn out.
I am seriously looking at getting variable rate shockies next with in car adjustment, as like you, I cant get an answer accurate enough regarding a set shockie.
Thinking along the line of King shocks but I may need the money of a king to buy them
I've actually put my old Bilsteins back on, even though one is knackered and leaking, they are so much better than the Ultimates with the 140/275 valving.
If the valving is different, then what valving would it need to be, what is the equivilent valving in a twin tube shock, nobody seems to be able to tell me.
I was thinking about it last night, I think that it may be related to the size of the piston that makes the valving different, the mono shock may need a larger rebound and compression because of the larger piston it uses, I was also lead to believe that a 70/30 rebound to compression is the ratio regardless of whether it's a mono tube or twin tube shock, this could be why the Ultimates are too harsh.

Not sure where the experts are Baz ? But my Fox are set up at 85/100 and this is similar in rates to the 360/80 of the Bilsteins. These seem really well matched to the RTE springs i'm running. They are a nice firm ride for 4"+ of lift and not too stiff, but really come into their own at speed. (as we all know D2's are known for speed).
Is the guy whpo tuned your shocks able to revalve them for you ? Most places in the US offer one free revalve if you're not satisfied.
Unfortunately i can't offer any more than this.
Cheers
George
