    Drive shaft flanges

    Hey all,
Does anyone have a diagram/pic of a land rover drive shaft flange showing measurements, im looking at getting some custom drive shafts made up by Tom Woods in the US and they want measurements of the flanges, so if anyone has can help with a diagram it would much appreciated and save me some measuring

They appear to be standard Hardy Spicer products.

    Go to Driveline: Catalogues

Select Section 4 , download the PDF, and on page 13/76 (their page 10) is the specs for generic HS parts (In imperial sizes, with metric equivalents)

I measured the D1 propshaft end I have spare, and it corresponds to the standard Hardy Spicer 1300 series bolt pattern Part number K2.2.239, using K5L4R uni's ( 26.99 x 74.61).

If you use the bigger uni K513XR ( 26.99 x 81.76), then the flange should be 1310 series P/N 2.2.329.

    Spec for both

    OD: 3.82 in ( 97mm)
    PCD: 3.13 in ( 79.4)
    Spigot 2.375in (60.32)
L (distance uni to face flange) 1.39in (35.30)
    Bolt holes dia ( D1) .394in (10mm)
Distance,(D2) center to center (widest distance) bolt holes 2.39in(60mm)
Distance (D3) center to center (shortest distance) bolt holes 2.01in(51mm)

( I already had the PDF for a project I'm working on)

Try Keith at Rovertracks,he had a custom flange made for my rear Dana pinion to Rover drive shaft.Very nice piece of equipment.
    And very reasonably priced.

did you convert your Sals to a Dana? 30 spline? 35?

I did convert my Salisbury to a Dana as it worked out the cheapest way to get the ratio that I wanted to match my Ashcroft reverse cut front.
Unfortunately, because I already had a detroit in the rear,I kept the standard 24 spline and just used Keiths chromo axles, which seeing that it isn't a comp truck, and even though I have a set of 35's as my offroad rubber, the chromo axles should be fine.If I was going to do it from scratch,I would have gone to 35 spline and bought the 35 spline Dana locker. This vehicle is just a slow moving project, and I am picking the bits that I think will make it perform the way I want it to,which sometimes doesn't correspond to what a majority of others do.

Wayne, what was involved in doing this. just thinking this would be handy to know when we start making our front Sals diffs. good to have a better ratio selection.
    Thanks Vern

    sorry Cal for the hijack

Quite a simple modification, all the parts came from Keith at Rovertracks. He was able to source a set of Dana gears,in my case 4.1's to match the 4.12 Ashcrofts that I have in the front. The gearset came with seals, bearings, and everything to make it a fairly simple fit and setup.Keith had a custom pinion flange made,to suit the rover driveshaft,as my driveshaft is only new.But I think that MAX (Tusker) has a similar setup, and he has a flange to suit Ford 9" unis to suit his modified driveshaft. One thing I did find though, and I haven't bothered to bring it up to Keith. Was the cup for the pinion bearing, was slightly too large to fit in the Salisbury housing, nothing that a trip to the bearing place couldn't fix,the bearing itself was correct.
I was able to do this for less than half the cost of buying just the Salisbury R&P.
Hope this is of some benefit??
My suggestion is to just ring Keith if you have any questions,as he has access to aa lot of people and stuff that aren't advertised and he is a great guy to talk to.The last email I got from him, asking what I wanted this week,he was telling me that since the rise in our $,that is is snowed under with orders from Aust.

    good work LowRanger,

was the cup to big for the diff cover or the cast housing?

so all that would be needed to go 35 spline would be different side gears, Axles and new stub shaft (spindle)
