    Silicon Hose Popping

    Hi ,

Recently changed my D2 intercooler hose to silicon hose , bought from UK .
Brand is Terrafirma . The 1st section , the shortest one , keep popping under load . I have even tried to used additional hose clamps on it and tighthen it until it cuts into the outer layer of the new silicon hose .
Is this normal ? What can be done here ?

Now its start to leak oil from these cuts - eventhough the inner wall doesn't seems to have any punctures .
Should I change back to the original rubber hose on this section ?

    Thks.

I know of a few now complaining about the Terrafirma hoses popping off. I drove Aaron40's D2 and it popped off without much effort at all.
He has fixed it now but not sure what he did.
I would suggest taking it off and cleaning inside the contact area with some acetone or GP thinners to remove and silicone residue then use a maxi clamp on it. Maxi clamps are used on truck cooler hoses and are far better as they have a much wider contact area. I have them on mine and best seal ever.

    Cheers

Could the intercooler be partially blocked inside, causing the problem.Maybe it needs a clean out?

Also silicon hoses should really be an interference fit...i.e you should need to wiggle it to get it on..if you can get it on easily then its not a good fit and possibly contributing to the ease of it coming off.
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......

I had the same problem when I fitted silicon hoses to my TD5. I stopped the problem by cleaning everything spotless with white spirit first, and the putting the hoses on with plenty of silicon gasket cement and not starting the car for 24hours to let the silicon set properly(hose clamps were used of course). Absolutely no issue since this was done.

    Cheers,

    Jason
