I looked at it a few years ago. Found some interernet posts by JustinC detailing the carnage his 4Bd1 wreaked on his ZF and decided to keep my bulletproof 5 speed manual.
There are auto boxes from US trucks that hold up fine behind a tweaked 4BD1T, but they're bigger, longer and would be a huge effort to fit in a 4wd.
Uping the torque converter is not worth it!
When I bought mine it had a 27-300 stallie in it. She was fast but a pain in the but. I paid to have it put pack to normal.
