    D2 stuggles above 2000rpm

    Gday All,

The D2 started to sound funny above 2000rpm today, and seems to struggle abit for power, altho it does reach speed ok its just not right.

I put a new fuel filter on 4 days ago, and have checked it for water.none

I put a new aircleaner in tonight but it still isnt right.

Once you get to about 80 the viabration is enough to make the gearstick viabrate.

Nanocom has only logged 1 fault, stuck closed EGR, but assume this is standard with the EGR removed.

I cant drive Nanocom good enough to get in Instrument mode so I can check Boost etc, but almost sounds like a fueling problem, but car idles fine..

    Any idea's

    Many thanks

    Cheers Ean

    Hi,
Mate sounds like 1 of these 2 things. You may have over boosted but this should have reset once you restart the car. I had mine lose power and vibrate and it was the fuel pump letting go. Apparently pretty common with the TD5. I would read up on the nanocom because you can test the fuel pump with it. When my pump failed it idled fine but was really slow to rev up and it wouldn.t rev past 3000rpm. Then as it got worse it started to vibrate and not idle happy.(only just made it back to town). I would be blaming the pump

Have you replaced your injector loom?

Yep done the loom, and checked and cleaned the ECU, I have checked all the known issues I can think of, I guess it could be the pump, as the killer wasps dont seem as noisy in the tank so its done 240,000 so far.

I seem to think its something like an idler pulley or something, but replace that and the harmonic balancer about 60,000 ago so wouldnt think its them..

Put all silicon hoses on so dont think its that either...might read up on the nanocom abit more and see if you can test the pump..

Hi Ean you can test the pump "circuit" with the Nanocom. It will run the pump for 2 seconds so you will hear it, but wont give you the opportunity to test high or low operation.

    Cheers

I did the test on the nanocom, and all it say's is test done, same with the injectors, I really dont think it is the pump, as it will go thru the rev range no probs, its just that something goes out of balance at about that 2000 rpm..

Am wondering if a engine mount is failing as 1 looks far lower than the other when you look at the hole in the bottom...

Will pull all the plastic crap off from around the Rad, and check the harmonic balancer and might pull the belt and see if 1 of the pulley bearings sound noisy..

Ean, check for debris obstructing the inlet side of the airbox or delaminating turbo hoses.
It sounds like it might be starving for air?

    Cheers,

    Thanks Paul,

But already checked that, it has the power, its just something is getting out of balance around that 2000rpm, the car just sounds different, done the uni's 6mths ago, maybe an engine mount or a pulley starting to do a bearing or harmonic balancer, it just seems something is not right at that rev range..

    will keep trying

    Thanks and Cheers Ean

    hi ean,

I agree sounds like it could be the fuel pump dieing. Its losing the pressure at high revs and starving the engine.

is your vibration in the engine? or is gearbox jumping?

cheack the front cardinal joint, if it was an engine mount it will knock and jump when you switch engine off. also cheack gearbox mounts as they will make a vibration as well.

have a good xmas see you later am in town till the 15/12

    Thanks Carla,

Maybe my title is abit mis-leading, the car will power thru above 2000rpm, but at that rev range, something changes, you can hear the tone of the car change, its like something goes out of true, then go above that and it seems top settle down, back off and it returns at about the same revs..

Will spend some more time on it over the next few days..

    Thanks and Cheers Ean
