    v8 potentiometer

i have read in the archives some info on potentiometer values(voltages)
wires going to pot are a different colour to what other posters say, being
brown green and blue, but i suppose that makes no difference.however voltage with ignition on is 1 volt, with engine running at about 12 hundred rpm voltage is 4.8 volts, which seems to be way out, also removing holding screws and rotating pot slightly makes no differance, however car seems to run perfectly, but i can't help myself fiddling.
also my engine no is a suffix c ,which is a bit unusual i think, one poster said that main bearings for a suffix c engine were hard to obtain,i wonder what the differences are regards maroochy

I think you are reading your multimeter incorrectly.
The voltage reading should vary between about 0.2-0.5 volts with the TPS at idle position.
It should read 4 point something volts if held at WOT.
The voltage depends on the position of the acclerator/throttle.
    There are three wires.
One reads 5volts all the time, one is earth, and the other one reads a varying voltage depending on where you turn it. The absolute values do not matter so much as the progression must be smooth with no fallbacks.

thanks for the reply PhillipA ,something is not right that's for sure, put new battery in multimeter and checked leads,no difference the readings are all over the place.
next thing is to get hold of a analogue meter and see what happens ....regards maroochy

A dirty pot will cause random readings on a cheap DMM. Sometimes an analogue is better as you suggest but these days DMM's are so cheap maybe pick up a slightly better one.
