    Rover 820si Question

I know not landrover related But I own a rare Rover 820si saloon and on xmas eve the auto stopped working .Motor revs but u get nowhere. All was well and it suddenly changed down and then started slipping. If I leave it for a while It will drive for about a minute and then do the same... slip.
The car has done only 106000k's the oil is a little dirty and I did add some as when I checked the levels when hot it was blow the dipstick, however after leaving it for an hr and checking again it was overfull.
Do any English mechanics on here perhaps have any clues?
I was going to remove the pan and filter and see if it was clogged .There are no parts here in aus and If i have to replace or get the box fixed I am deeming it too hard and not viable.
I have had this rover for about 2 years now and replaced the head gasket when I first got it as thats all that was wrong. I actually saved it from going to the crushers. I dont really drive it much but If I can get it going again I would like to keep it and not send it to the crushers as its a real nice car to drive. This link show what they look like

Give Kevin Falconbridge a call at Rovertech; he used to repair Rover cars exclusively and probably still does,

    Cheers Charlie

I would make sure that the auto fluid is at the correct level before you do anything else, this is normally checked with the engine runing and the trans in neutral.

Hi Brad, these look like they share some Honda bits like the Concerto/Rover 416i etc, do they? Looks like Legend door handles etc etc.
    V6 or 2 litre engine?
IF this is true, possibly be able to source a trans in this country.

Hello All and thanks for the replys
I will contact Kevin when he gets back to work as I know him very well and he did have 2 of these he was using for parts.
Justin it uses a ZF 4H14 autobox and is not related to the honda more like a freelander with a discovey 1 dash almost identical.
I finally got the pan off the bottom of the tranny..took me all day as you have to remove the front trailing arm and also drop the bottom wishbone and also raise the engine tranny to get the trailing arm off what a pain
Inside I found bits of gunk and the filter completely blocked I dont think its ever been serviced.
I have cleaned it all up and removed the valve body and cleaned that up and I have one more bolt to put on and then I can fill it and see what happens and if its dead well its dead.I wont be putting another transmission in it I will sell it or scrap it

Brad, Give Manuel automatics a call on (03) 94664499 and ask for Tony or Manuel. They are a ZF rebuilder and has a lot of used parts off odd vehicles, he may be able to suggest something? Sounds almost too late if there is excessive muck in there. I would counsel against removing the valve body, just change the filter and run it, then change the oil etc again.
