Mine constanly returns "Noisy crank signal"
Cannot remove it,it is the Crank Angle Sensor it refers to,replaced mine incase, kept the removed working unit in glove box.
Andrew
Guys, need some help please. Some background. I have an 03 D2A TD5. Mods summary as follows:
VNT turbo
EGR removed
Larger intercooler
Larger trans cooler
Provent
New Throttle assy
New MAF
new MAP sensor
162k on clock. 6000km ago, full service (mini overhaul)
Stage 2 Tune.
MADMAN EMS-1
Ive had some problems with my tune. Feels like the engine cuts briefly to change gear, but then comes back on strong.
Today, on way home from work, noticed coolant temp climbing. Normally 88, got as high as 106 before I got home. Plugged in nanocom and got the following:
FAULT 01-07 EGR vacum modulatore schort citcuit CURRENT
(no ****, its not there)
FAULT 03-05 driver demand problem 1 CURRENT
(its not the throttle assy, as I have replaced this already trying to fix this fault, any other ideas?)
FAULT 19-07 noisy cranck signal has been detected LOGGED
(This is the one Im really worried about)
FAULT 20-02 Turbocharger overboosting LOGGED
(Not worried about this)
FAULT 20-05 EGR valve stuck closed LOGGED
(As before its not there anymore)
Mine constanly returns "Noisy crank signal"
Cannot remove it,it is the Crank Angle Sensor it refers to,replaced mine incase, kept the removed working unit in glove box.

noisey crank angle sensor has about a dozen known causes and is not worth worrying about.
causes include
bad earth (well duh)
noisey starter motor (clear the code with the engine running if it only comes back on restart its typically going to be starter related)
dirty contacts on the stater solenoid
dying battery
contaminated sensor
sensor not positioned correctly
frayed cable to sensor
moisture ingress in sensor plug
I've had the fault clear for no apparent reason a couple of times, once by replacing the fuel pump and once when removing and replacing the ECU as part of sorting out the oil in the harness problem.

There's a tech bulletin from Landrover on noisy crank signal it recommends fitting a spacer plate to the crank sensor this also can be for hi end miss if I remember right
is your coolant system very pressurised and was you temp which was 106 coolant temp or block temp
106 was the temp as read by the madman ems. The probe sits in the standard bleed screw position.
Havnt checked pressure yet.
I have a suspect fuel pump at the moment.....is it possible, that somehow it is running lean, causing higher temps? and possibly explaining my wierd fuelling issue?

OK.....In the light of day, went and had a look this morning. For the cooling, I "think"this is the issue:
Of course, that had to have been caused by something.....like this:
Im guessing that no harmonic balancer would cause a "noisy signal"
So, removed the balancer from where it was resting, and gingerly drove it 5km to Ritters for them to fit a new seal and balancer. I would have done it myself, but, I dont have anything to pull the bottom seal with....and the quote was reasonable. With the fan fitted and now spinning, even with three blades missing, temps were normal.
