Best spark plugs and leads for 94 Vogue SE ?

Since I've been running diesels for a long time... I'm out of touch with Spark Ignitions...
So what's the consensus as to the best combination of spark plugs and leads for a 3.9 litre (low compression?) 94 Classic Vogue SE ?

In my youth I used to faithfully use Magnecor stainless steel wire leads, and found that differant plugs suited differant engines...

Sorry, dunno whats in there at the moment, - too scared to disturb the Gremlins by removing a lead and looking... but if it gets a hint of water nearby... it pretty well kills it. - In my experience a sure sign of iffy plug leads.
Dizzy and rotor look good and clean .

Any real advantage in Platinum plugs? or just stick with Bosch what-evers and maybe a new set of standard leads ?

The car is running ok at the moment, but would like to be ready and waiting when it runs out of luck.

I just put a set of stock standard leads on my P38, cost $54 and they are OEM.
Cant complain about that and the last set were 16 years old.
Being OEM they are all numbered and fit perfectly it also sorted a slightly erratic cold idle problem that i had been putting up with for 12 months, cheap fixit really.

Magnecor do suppressed leads now. Exceptionally good leads mated to NGK plugs.
Platinum plugs will have no performance gains as such however longevity and matching the better spark gains from the leads will stop pitting of standard plugs.
I would also track down a Lucas cap and rotor also. Once it's done you won't need to touch it for a long time.

    Cheers

I use Gasmaster leads and NGK Iridum plugs and have been very happy with the performance over the last 60 000km, with no attention needed for either

If you buy the Iridiums from the USA they are AFAIR about $12 each landed which to me is good value if they get to 100KK.
I find they improve idle on my RRC 92.
I have had Magnacores for 10 years now. They are now getting a bit hard but nary a misfire in 10 years.

    Cool

Won't comment on plugs, except to say I have preference for NGK. Bosch induction leads are really outstanding IMHO. Spiral wound, etc. $5 a pop @ Supa...... When on sale.

I have little trouble with the Bosch leads, they are very good in the water proofing. A D1 set should fit the same as the RRC. The listed Bosch set uses 7mm leads so fits the original holders very well. Personally I like to look at plugs every 20 000km or so, then if they are dodgy looking colour wise just put another standard set in. I wouldn't trust a 3.9 for 100 000km unless it was brand new.

    Distilled advice ! Thanks

My thanks to all...for such a basic subject. But at least now I've got alternatives which I (now) *know* will work, and work well.

Incidently, NGK were always good in my Crown, as were Champion. Bosch were .... but fine in my HZ small v-8, und perfekt in der peoplewagon Passat.

Its always nice to have choices, as to how much money you throw into the Black Hole...

(Ryco and Repco both make airfilters that fit, A 1360 and RAF 137 respectively, around $22... good if you're suddenly in need of one right-now and did'nt buy one from the US for only $12....)

Cheers from a hot & humid WA
