    changing the transmision inhibitor switch

Gday all i have a new switch on its way to us and have already removed the old one, my question is (and this comes after reading all the info in removal then ordering the new part i read the install section , i have noticed you need a tool to align the new switch, does this tool come with the new one or is it another thing i will need to get .

I also find the instructions in the RAVE it says to put into PARK when taking the old one out. To refit ensure park is selected by rotating selector shaft fully clockwise, "its allready there from when i took it out"

engage N by rotating selector shaft 2 detents anti-clockwise (it doesnt say anything about changing the gear selector to N ?????

position inhibitor switch to selector shaft, connect multiplug and secure.

engage switch to selector shaft, and fit but do not tighten bolts.

fit tool LRT-44-011 to selector shaft.

insert setting pin into tool. rotate switch untill setting pin engages with hole in switch as showen and tighten bolts

position selector lever to selector shaft and tighten nut.

Wouldnt everything be rite if you have the transmission in P the selector switch in P fit it all and tighten, as above i can not see how it will work when you leave the shifter in P and then change the selector shaft to N, how the hell is it going to engage the rite gears ???? or am i missing something

    Thanks

Checking that the engine starts only in P and N would be a good guide to correct adjustment too. Move the new switch a little each way until it's correct

i just replaced the one on my `01 D2 Td5 without the LRT-44-011 tool fine.

it makes it more of a two person job to be easy but, you could do it still by yourself.

as bee_utey pointed out a good start is to see if it will start in N & P but for me that wasnt enough, as i could have it in N or P and start it still, even if the indicator on the dash didnt show that i was in N or P (just showed blank - in between gears, i imagine though if it was that far out it showed completely the wrong gear it would have stopped me starting it)

I had to adjust it (rotate it) while my partner was in the cab watching the gear shift position indicator on the dash, then tighten the nuts once in position/alignment.

So when it was in N (or any other position, though N seems was for me the spot to callibrate it too), the screen said it was that position too. And make sure if you wiggle the stick with out pushing in the lock button on your stick it doesnt make the indicator change or go out. that it only changes to the next one when its meant to during change.

Also a note if you turn it on after replacing it and get the flashing 'M' and 'S' dont worry like i did. it cleared after i started the car. the flashing is we had from time to time leading up to replacement because the inhibitor wouldn't register N.

Thanks very much, i did forget all about this post, i got it all running, to start with it wouldnt start in "N" so i just got the daughter to sit inside and try starting while i moved it slightly, all came good and has been working perfect since.

    Thanks
