I have posted a wanted ad in the markets for some side steps for my series 3. Does anyone have any stories they can share about the fitting of these? Where is the best place to mount them to (under the body or onto the chassis?) and is there anything commercially available or do you have to make them up yourself? I'm a mediocre welder so would probably weld the cosmetic parts and bolt the structural parts. But I want them to look like they belong on the car ie not too modern or adorned with pretty checker plate etc.

Anyone got any photos of theirs to give me some ideas of designs and mounting points?
