    replacing brake booster

    Hi Gurus,

i have diagnosed thanks to the forum the problem with my defender 300tdi brakes. I have had the vacuum pump replaced and still had poor brakes, i have just checked the booster and found the cracks around the master bolts Mechanic did not check!!!
Now the question is can one remove the booster without disconnecting the master cylinder brake lines, can it be shifted out the way enough to get the booster out? I am ok with spanners but am scared to have to bleed the brakes etc?

    Thanks
    Mal

    Hi mal
This is a tricky one I have done this many times on other models but not on defender there pedal box is more acessiable than other which may help. The main trick is being careful enough to move cylinder out of the way enough with out bending the pipes to far to the point you have to force it back in place normally unclipping them from there mounts help as well but it's more of a judgement call if you are going to do it that way. If you do check the unions are still tight after it is refitted as tweaking can cause them to loosen I have seen this happen on cars that have had boosters changed on po17 recall.
