Hello again! Well my old point’s distributor on my 3.5L rover V8 in my stage one has pushed me to the edge. It’s worn mechanical advance and its worn and truly random movement of the point’s plate is just plain annoying. I’m hoping someone can put me in contact with a bosch scorcher electronic ignition dizzy at a reasonable price. Anyone here used one, are these units reliable and can you get spares easy? I’ve never seen one fitted, but I have heard they are the goods. I don’t need duel timing or anything other than a reliable on time spark that works every time for a long time, with the simplest possible conversion. Thanks guys!

I had a 4.2 Rover Stroker in my County for years. The only thing that ever gave me any trouble, regularly, was the Lucas dizzy. Once I fitted a Scorcher it was easier to tune and it stayed in tune for much longer, ran better, improved power and fuel economy. Got mine through Fred Smith in Melb, $500 (some years ago though) You use the drive gear off your existing dizzy. Not cheap, but a worth while improvement.

If you want a budget option get a used RRC/early (vee belt) D1 distributor and upgrade the Lucas amp as per my Bosch amp conversion. A bit more work but just as reliable. Bosch amp is the same as used in the Scorcher.
For added performance and depending on any existing modifications you have you might consider asking Performance Ignitions to make their curve a bit more agressive in conjunction with a dyno tune. Their off the shelf unit is still a bit conservative to ensure their are no issues with pre-ignition when fitted outside their control. I think they also have the Bosch amp mounted on the dizzy. However I would not be too concerned about that because having the amp located remotely in later vehicles was more to do with the rubbish OEM Lucas amp not capable of handling heat.
