Gday
I've noticed for a while a bit of oil around my activation compressor. After doing a bit of research the problem seems to be the seals that run on the actual centre in the diff
From fitting a front locker yesterday, they seem pretty easy to change
How bigger job is it to replace the seals in a Salisbury locker? I know they are a completely different set up to a Banjo style diff
I was just going to leave it because sitting stationary it just puffs out a cloud of oil but after a drive it gurgles oil out of the top of the solenoid
Thanks
you may possibly need a diff spreader to get the centre out, they can be pretty tight sometimes
If you keep having issue's with the 'x' rings leaking it might be worth trying some thicker diff oil (85/140) ARB are now recomending this seeing there lockers keep leaking oil up the line's.

Dropped into ARB today
They seemed to think it may not be the seals. If it were the seals then the compressor would be cycling, trying to keep pressure in the diff centre.
Their thoughts were that a blocked diff breather could be at fault (which I did have) thus the oil was pumping it's way up the line via pressure in the diff and on release of the solenoid would bubble out the top.
They suggested fitting one of their purging valves, which dumps the air, water, oil etc down onto the ground.
Naturally this was more expensive than the seals ($65)
I noticed that while stationary for a period of time, the solenoid exhaust will only puff out a cloud of oil, but on deactivation just after a short drive oil will bubble out the solenoid exhaust
Thoughts?
After you have unblocked the diff breather, disconect the airline from the diff and the solinoid and give it a good clean out (if you havn't allready).
also, about the 'x' ring seals in the locker, oil can still leak past the x rings without air leaking. We have had 4wd's come into work with oil blowing up the lines but without the air leaking past the seal's, so first thing was to check the diff breathers, they were all good no blockages at all, turns out if there isn't enough pre-load on your carrier bearings the diff can move from side to side very slightly causing the 'x' rings to act as a pump, pumping oil past the seals without leaking air, this is ARB's theory anyway

Not often you'll need a spreader to remove and refit the same carrier on a sals
Drop the cover and see if the carrier has preload or endfloat
