Fitting new handbrake - well trying!

I'm in the process of fitting a new handbrake assembly to my Disco2. Everything is in, but to get the cable onto the handbrake lever I've had to pull it on. The cable adjuster is wound in as far as it will go, and the adjustment nut is wound out also but so far this hasn't provided enough adjustment to refit the new drum.

Any ideas on how to make the shoes come in a bit more, I expect on the cable side so that the drum will go on. I have tried tapping the shoes to shuffle them in further but there still isn't enough in it.
    Cheers

I m surprised that there hasnt been any reponses yet!

I dont think this is your help either.
I havn''t had to change mine over but have found I always needed long nose pliers to pull the cable eye into line for the pin inside the cab. I assume you have checked for dirt/ burrs in the cable housing ferrules and the fittings are fully seated.

    cheers

Hey thanks Strangy, I was surprised too. Seems that somebody on here has done everything except put in a new handbrake!

In the end I had to change my order or process.

I had put the mechanism in, attached the cable but the drum wouldn't go on because of the pull on the cable.

I ended up removing the cable from the handbrake lever, fitting the drum and then reattaching the cable to the handbrake lever, and then pulling the handbrake on to stretch the cable and fit everything home such as the sheath and its rubber mount to the body. If it still dragged then I'd just drive it until the smoke stopped and the dragging went away. To get the cable up to the handbrake lever, as you say it was screwdrivers to pull it up, multigrips to hold it and screwdrivers to align the cable and lever holes before slotting in the pin to hold it all together.

So it turned out, with everything adjusted as far as it would go, when the new handbrake mechanism assembly was installed, it was 1 click from off to on, but has now beded in to 2 clicks just. So, all is good.
    Cheers
