Thread: Opening bonnet and location of earth

Having an annoying problem with our D2A TD5. Three times now the remote fob has stopped working properly. It turns the alarm on and off but won't open or close the central locking. While this is going on the indicators don't work and neither does the button on the dash to lock/unlock the doors. The first two times it happened the car was unlocked, today it wasn't and as my key lock on the door hasn't worked since we bought the car I can't open the car.

So, is there a way to pop the bonnet from the outside without pulling the lever inside? If we disconnect the battery for 20mins it starts working again. Also want to know where the earth strap is located as a suggestion was made to clean the connection. I may need a new car battery as the fob battery is brand new!!!

There are multiple Earth points on the D2. You will find the main one to the body immediately beside the battery if you follow the Negative cable.
Without checking the Diagrams I can think of at least 8 around the vehicle for different systems. If you have a RAVE CD it is worth a look.

Opening the bonnet can be done from outside however you will have to work from underneath and be damaging at minimum the mechanisms security/ protective cover and depending on your level of equipment and frustration....grille, and lock down panel.
