    3.5l V8 oil pump drives

Hey people. Just a quick question, I’m ordering my bosh scorcher then he asks me what style of oil pump drive it has. Apparently there are a few different ones like the wobble drive, a hex and the spade. I’m sure I have the spade type, but I may be having a flash back to something else. I’m about 800ks from home and (the car) I want this dizzy to be there by the time I get back. Here’s the details, 1980 land rover stage one low compression 3.5L V8 with Leyland stamped on the block I think the engine number is 100139 (and matches the body), has a factory fitted oil cooler, if that makes a difference. As I said I’m sure it’s a spade type, can anyone back that up?? If not, there’s nothing that can drop into the engine if you pull the old one out? It’s just I don’t have a lot mechanical mates so if I have to get someone down there to pull it out (I'm not worried about the timing) they shouldn't be able to mess it up?! Thanks!

In the absence of anybody else:
This should jog your memory: The oil pump gear at the top is from a EFI, and the lower gear from a carby V8 somewhere before 86. The EFI dizzy has the extra adaptor, presumably the 'wobbly' bit, that fits the spade tip of the gear, whilst the carby version dizzy has just the spade tip that fits into the socket of the oil gear shaft. As for hex, I thought that was something to do more with Ford.
Of course I could be wrong.

Well I ordered my dizzy today, I rang up fully changed thinking I knew what a wanted. As luck would have it a got a guy that was really clued on, and thanks for that! When I mentioned it’s a 1980 engine that’s not EFI and it has a spade drive he said it’s not. I started doubting myself even more, and he assured me it was the wobble drive. There was only one thing for it, a short phone call to a mate saw the dizzy in my car ripped out in half an hour (I’ll fix it later). At the end of its shaft lay a hideous wobble drive! I’m not even sure if the world is round now, apparently sometime in themid 70’s they made this change to eliminate misalignment issues. I’ve got the right one on its way now at $650 with a coil to suit, I’ll have to look into this some more.

Yeah Langy , your 10 years out , the wobble shaft short gears wear 1975 to 1986 ;(up to suffix C 1975 ?) not shown in your photo) the 1974 s and earier were short gears and female spade .The one in the picture is the same as a P76 . Then theres the wolf racing version with irs bigger gears and spacer plate which is basically the EFI set .
