I'm hoping someone wil help me with these lol:
First off, how do you undo those connectors with the wire arround the clips, like the fuel temp sensor? Having problems getting it off. The one of the coolant temp sender is broken so it just pops of and on easily.
How do I read my multimeter when testing resistance? It has settings for 200, 2K, 20k, 200k, 2m etc. Is that the max each one can read? So if I wanted to test something which should have a resistance of 100 ohms I would put it on 200, but for a resistance of 5000 ohms I'd put it on 2m? Cos I am strugling to make sence of the reading from my coolant temp sender.
Set the multi meter to 2k and when the engine was almost totally cold it was reading 1.50. Went for a long run, came back with the engine hot, and it reads .259 I was expecting much bigger numbers:
-10C (14°F) 9100-9300 Ohms
0C (32°F) 5700-5900 Ohms
20C (68°F) 2400-2600 Ohms
40C (104°F) 1100-1300 Ohms
60C (140°F) 500-700 Ohms
80C (176°F) 300-400 Ohms
100C (212°F) 150-200 Ohms
Same with voltage.... Why is it 2, 20, 200 etc? The manual jsut said "select an appropriate setting" - Thanks! lol
Any help would be appreciated. I have a day off tomorrow so will be spending some time on the car :O)
The temp sensor is fine. On the 2k setting 1.5 = 1500 ohms and .259 = 259 ohms which fits the table fine.
The reason your multi meter does this is due to fitting the numbers on the screen. Auto ranging meters are easier to use but generally more expensive. Jaycar does have some cheap auto ranging ones though.
For 5000 ohms use the 20k setting.
If you don't know which range to use just use the lowest and if it gives an error message just keep selecting the next range up until you get a reading.
Thanks chaps! Now know how to get the wire off and how to test the damn thing! lol
