Thread: no reverse and wont change gears, F4????

hi i recently bought a 2003 landrover freelander v6 and just started having problems with the transmisson. when you start it from cold and take off it stays in first gear then it changes into top gear with a big bang wich soinds like its coming from the diff and it brings up f4 on the dash where the grear is usually displayed then sometimes it wont reverse its like the reverse gear wont engage and you have to try a few times until you get it. can any body help?????

Not help as such, but I seem to recall that these transmissions had a tendancy to be both problematic and expensive to repair.
