Well, I really am behind the times. I’m amazed at the outputs from these diesels. Always been impressed with the 2.7 tdv6 but it is a premium product (ie big $$$). The ranger and d-max aren’t premium by any measure. You could probably walk into a wrecker and get a low k engine and loom for $5k. saw a 2009 ranger 2.5l diesel 21k on motor for $12k, 2wd.

These new diesels have amazing fuel economy. the isuzu manual crew cabs have combined l/100km of 8.4. down to 7.2 on open road. they wouldn't be too far behind the weight of a D1.

These figures are for the isuzu d-max.

    Isuzu 4JJ1-TC Hi-Power
    Description: 3.0 litre turbo-diesel, in-line 4-cylinder, DOHC, 16-valve
    Maximum torque: 360 Nm @ 1800 —> 2800 rpm (manual)
    333 Nm @ 1600 —> 3200 rpm (automatic)
    Maximum power: 120 kW @ 3600 rpm
    Bore x stroke: 95.4 mm x 104.9 mm
    Displacement: 2999 cc
    Compression ratio: 17.5 : 1

these are for the ranger :

Type: 2.5-liter DOHC in-line four-cylinder, four valves per cylinder, common-rail electronic injection, turbocharged diesel with intercooler
    Capacity:2499cc
    Bore:93mm
    Stroke:92mm
    Compression:18.0:1
    Fueliesel
    Max Power:105kW @ 3500rpm (EEC)
    Max Torque:330Nm @ 1800rpm (EEC)

Type: 3.0-liter DOHC in-line four-cylinder, four valves per cylinder, common-rail electronic injection, turbocharged diesel with intercooler
    Capacity:2953cc
    Bore:96mm
    Stroke:102mm
    Compression:18.0:1
    Fueliesel
    Max Power:115kW @ 3200rpm (EEC)
    Max Torque:380Nm @ 1800rpm (EEC)

This is without mentioning the 3.2 dura torq which has 147 kw and 470 nm which is coming in the ranger.

As I said, I really am behind the times. These are big numbers. I am hard pressed to believe these cars actually reflect these numbers in their performance on the road. Puts my 4.6 to shame which I reckon has got plenty of go and tows 2-3 ton beautifully. These newer diesels must feel like race cars!

Or do these numbers not tell the real story?

And yet if I took to one inside my house with the baseball bat I keep behind the front door, they would get away Scott free and probably get a payout too.....

Wiki? Do you really believe everything from them! According to Official LANDROVER the 300TDI is 83KW and 265nm. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Maybe the 3ltr Izuzu is the best replacement for the TDI?

    Hi Luke,
There are too different specs for the 300tdi, the disco was higher rated than the Defender at the time. 83KW is correct for the Defender spec.

No worries. Just thought you were having a `moment.'

You should be more concerned that no one said anything
