    grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

So i decided to do a oil and spark plug change on my newly purchased 1990 RRC did both diffs .Transfer case /transmission then engine ,then i started removing the spark plugs drivers side all good when putting the new ones in finding the thread and finger tightig them up to tight then just nipping them up passenger side first one good 2nd one was so bloody tight i could not get it off finely removed it then the new plug wont go in straight or all the way in so i guess the person who changed the plugs last time cross threaded it and just cranked it in hard ****ing the thread

    SO WHAT NOW ?

retap a thread but what about the alloy shaving that will enter the combustion chamber ,and seen that the threads there already there but all crossed how do you get the tap straight in ,not crooked

    any help will be appreciated

Hi yes had to do this more than once

A good quality 1st taper tap, packed with grease will prevent most bits from entering cylinder, after you have tapped it out, crank engine to dispel last fragments.

It'll be fine just take your time.

you can also pressurise the cylinder a little by turning the engine till that cylinder is on exhaust stroke then plugging an airline with a rag up the exhaust.

Your auto shop may sell a spark plug thread tool, like a tap but larger grooves and starts cutting straight more easily. Drives with a spark plug socket. Otherwise a M14 x 1.25 thread tap as specified. You can crank the engine with the plug out, most shavings will whistle past your ear. Tiny ally shavings aren't risky in a cylinder so long as you blow most of them out.

Thanks for all your replys ,after searching a few shops for the right tap and coming up empty handed i decided to try the repco trade branch in southport to see if they could help ,and the rep said easy just use this will save you time money and works really well Powerbuilt Fuel & Ignition Tools
cost me $23 and 15 min of my time and worked a treat
i was a bit dubous at first about it ,but the thread colapse in when you screw it out ,so you put it in the spark plug hole with some grease on the thread ,push it alll the way in then screw in the pluger and thread expands to the size then you unscrew it out the spark plug hole pickingup the inner most thread ,there are also grooves in the thread and sort of hollow pockets to collect the shaving

    AWESOME TOOL
