    Defender Front Wheel Bearings

G/Day, Bit of a weird one with the defender i noticed today that the front wheel bearings are a tad loose, but the thing is i usually go for a walk around the wheels every so often and lean heavily on top of the wheel and rock the vehicle. if anything is loose you pick it up straight away,Hence when you jack it up you really get to feel the play, At the moment i'm getting Hub movement backward and forwards whilst the vehicle is on the ground, But when jacked up theres not enough to worry about,...Must wheelbearing, What else could it be?,..everything else looks ok.

Yes, swivel bearings are more likely to develop play than are wheel bearings.

You probably know a lot more about this than me but are you trying to move the wheel in the same plane when it is on the ground and when it is jacked up?
Is there any possibility that when on the ground and you move the vehicle you are are getting movement in the vertical plane but when you jack it up you grab the front and rear of the wheel and dont feel any movement? If this is the case then it is 100% consistent with suggestions above regarding the swivel pins / bearings.
