There's a couple of other threads fitting the 2256V off the TGV 2.8HS too.

Thanks every one for replying, I had the tappets adjusted not that long ago JC. The diesel specialist thought it may be a fuel starvation issue and says the pump tested perfectly on the bench. I just had another go on the freeway and had to keep my foor burried in 4th to get it past 3000rpm (my rev counter may not be 100% accurate) he suggested trying with the fuel cap off, I dont think this made any difference.

With the previous pump (the type with the cable and plug set up-euro spec I think) it would be more willing at higher speed but had absolutly no power low down, we have a complete opposite now!!! I am not expecting a race car but as said before beaten by a FESA d/c just not on.

The list of whats been done is as follows:
    -new injectors
    -new lift pump
    -recond pump (he supplied)
-new fuel lines from lift pump to filter then to pump
    -tappets set
    -new fuel filter
    -new air filter
    -new fuel tank

I cannot think what is starving the pump, or if in fact it is the new pump?? what could be going on??

    Thanks
    Mal

    Mal,

When the pump was fitted, was the pump time/ plunger lift correctly performed?? What do you mean by the euro spec pump? Did you have a EGR ECU type import pump on there before? There is very few things that will cause this problem, mostly to do with advance/ timing and fuel volume. Can you notice ANY difference in sound, IE is the engine quieter than before? Less diesel knock? This would show a lack of suitable timing advance, which would definately cause poor top end perfromance.
Have you put a pyrometer or boost gauge on it? These are VERY useful tools to diagnose diesel engine problems. You should see at least 500degreesC upstream temps, and 14 to 16 Psi on full noise before the wastegate opens.

Do you have boost and EGT gauges? They are very good for solving problems such as this.

    Hi JC
He swears that the engine to pump timing was out and he has sorted that part of it out. The sound--yes it has changed dramatically!! much quieter- so do I deduce from your comment that the timing needs advancing? this could be it!! thanks very much for the input I will ask him to sort it out (proffessionals hey!!!) Yes I did have the pump you mention as well is it worth anything?

    Thanks

On another but related front, I have an EGT gauge that i have been meaning to install for a year now, I am just a bit scared of snapping off the EGR plate bolts and there by causing my self huge grief, are ther any tricks to removing it? so that I can drill and tap the plate?

    Thanks

Don't go nuts with the socket when undoing, it should come off. I last used a 1/4 drive socket set. Note you may need a new gasket. Also it's possible to pressurise the manifold with a suitable vacuum cleaner set to "blow" and inserted up the tailpipe with some rag. Drill and tap dry, be careful to go through gently and 99% of the shavings will blow out. Wear safety glasses as shavings go everywhere.

I had the same fear when I did mine, but they were unfounded as the bolts came out easily. Give it a gentle try.
