D3 Engine Change

Hi All,

Hope you can help. I am considering an engine change on my 09 D3. I currently have a 6 cylinder petrol and am thinking of dropping a 3L diesel in instead. I have put 42K on in 18 months, so not doing too many ks, but will be putting long range tanks etc on in the next 12 months for trips to Lake Eyre, Kimberleys etc. Is it worthwhile changing the engine and ballpark what sort of costs?

Mate there are a lot of iffs in this one I reckon. It would cost a bomb - upwards of $25k new just for the hardware (that might be conservative) and then there are the fitting and compliance costs - second hand wouldnt be much cheaper from a wreckers if you ever get one come up. It would overcapitalise the vehicle by a big margin. Mate I know how attached a person can get to a vehicle, and I am one of those, but really, you would be better served with selling the petrol and getting a diesel. Another thing to consider with the exploder motor is LPG injection and long range fuel tanks also - so you run LPG where you can get it to make it a cheap to run machine. Just a thought.

I think you are off with the pixies on this one. Just too costly and difficult.

Sell your car and buy a diesel - it will be far cheaper.
