    Triple Battery System

The RRS/D3 has two small positions in the engine bay that auxiliary batteries can be fitted. One is on the drivers side next to the ABS actuator and the other is in front of the starter battery. Due to the small size of the positions only "reasonable" priced batteries of about 65Ah will fit in each of the spots - I have tested fitted Supercharge Allrounder batteries of that size and they will fit ($200 ea). I believe a Optima battery of similar size will also fit but are much more expensive.

So my question is - given the smaller Ah of the batteries, can I rig them up in parallel so that the "dual battery" system (not yet installed) will see these batteries as one battery or will this cause issues for the controller?

    Thanks

Two identical batteries in parallel will act like one 2x size one, so yes, not a problem.

Thats what I thought but the batteries will be about 10ft apart (cable length) and the controller will only be connected directly to only one of them, with appropriate cable joining them.

Hi Garry, what type of isolator is it, is it a relay/solenoid type or a fully electronic type?

Well needless to say, I would recommend you use one of mine.

That aside, with the output capacity of the D3’s alternator, there is no limit to the size, type and number of batteries you can fit and the alternator will literally charge each one independently of each other battery.

It also doesn’t matter if you mix battery type, they will all charge properly, whether they fully charge just depends on how low they are and how long your drive after using them.

BTW, This may sound back to front but the more battery capacity you have, the quicker you are likely to get it to a fully charged state.

    Bugger - missed that.

That is exactly what I want to do. Did you run the heavy cables that join the batteries along the back or front?

    Thanks

i used 16mm2 double insulated and it runs along the front, it tucks under the wings and then under the cover for the top of the radiator.
