Td5 VNT Help.... actuator rod settings

    Hi all,

I went to adjust what I though was the waste gate on my vnt the other week.

Turns out its not a wastegate but it controls the vnt movements.

And I did not write down what the orignal setting were

Could some one please count the threads on their actuator rod and the little grub screw with lock nut at the bottom of the actuator rod.

    That would be so helpful.

    Regards Ben

PS: I feel like a bit of a dick

It probably will not make that much difference. More difference might be experienced by changing the vacuum/boost actuator rating.

What it could affect is how closed the vanes are under no boost or at the other end of travel how far the vanes open under high boost conditions. The boost operated controller/actuator determines when the vanes move.

There should be a stop that prevents the vanes from shutting down all flow so you can't upset the turbo by closing it down altogether.

I would play with the adjustment until the adjuster does not move any further in the closed position, this should signify that it is sitting on the stop.

makes a huge difference on VNT turbos...

you can sort them by careful experimentation and monitoring the boost gauge and the EGT's.
