Just bought a TDI300 Disco 2 weeks ago and yesty it clocked over 147Kays, last oil change was at 145K by dealer who used Penrite Pro (viscosity unknown). Anyway, my question is, what oil should I use on the next change? I have access to CAT Deo 15w40 at work and have been researching using this at its next service. According to my Haynes Manual that came with the car, it requires a 15w40 with ACEA A2:96 and API: SH or better, from what ive found these specs are now superceded, the CAT oil has the ACEA Spec E5/B3/A2 and API:SL. Any good???
Hi, welcome here to start of with.
the 300tdi only came in the Disco Series1, if you have a 300tdi, its a Disco 1 for sure, years up to 98. 99 onwards are series2 witha TD5 donk.
I also use Penrite 15/40 semi synthetic and know I am not the only one, its pretty good as far as I am concerned.
I also drop the oil every 5-6000 km's.
Enjoy the journey
Methinks he purchased the "TDI300 Disco - 2 weeks ago"![]()
I think he meant he bought it 2 weeks ago
I used Penrite 15w 40 based on what I had read here when I had mine and changed the oil every 5000.

It's the right viscosity and the API class is higher grade so I will be perfect for it.
