300tdi prob - idle correction after de-acceleration
Howdy, I have done the timing belt today on a mates 96' 300tdi disco using my brand new 200/300tdi timing tool kit
.
All went well and smooth but after re-assembly we noticed that if revs are brought up high ..say 3000rpm then accelerator suddenly let off the revs then drop down to almost stall point before correcting back up to the usual 700-800rpm idle revs
.
Engine: 300tdi with factory non-egr injector pump
Could this just be an issue with injector pump being just off tdc? I triple checked everything before re-assembly, maybe I made a mistake?
..tomorrow I will pull off the a/c belt tensioner to access injector pump, set engine to tdc and re-check that the injector timing pin locates with ease.
Otherwise there is no loss of power and everything appears as it should be.
My 300tdi disco has always done something similar but not as extreme, I just put mine down to my (sadly) leaky injector pump (have another in the shop being reco'd this week)
Thanks in advance, any advice greatly appreciated.

I would first double check the timing marks are correct even valve timing. If it did not do it before. I had a similar issue on a td6 r/r 96 which was a pump fueling issue it would almost stall when the ac cut in but otherwise drive fine. Also make sure the lift pump is working as well. My 300tdi did it as well after exhaust replacement I was going to do some pump adjustment as well but I am waiting for my upgraded intercooler to come so I don't have to Muck around twice
