    D2 Leaking ABS valve

Hi - this is my first post. Over the years have had 1958 Series 2A, last of the Series 2, Series 3 tray, V8 County, 3 Defenders

Current 98 Defender has 120,000 km. Now has intermittent lights for ABS, Traction control, and Hill descent. Man says it's a leaking ABS valva and will cost $2,000 to replace. Not worth it for 13 year old TD5. Is there any problem with continuing to drive with leaking ABS valve?

Contact this guy and have a word with him, he should give an idea on how much you should pay.

A new valve block is not that expensive. It will still drive ok with out it, but you may not have TC/ABS, etc. The new ones are little different in design, in thoery they are suposed not to play up. I think MR do them for $1400 fitted. Not sure what they sell them for. These are brand new units from Wabco. The fault is actually likly to be dry solder joints inside the unit. Does it show up with a Shuttle valve switch error?

Is it really leaking, ie. can you see it? or is it the lights and the mech says the lights are caused by a leak?

Just the lights is a straight forward fix.

    cheers

Just the lights. Mechanic ran the electronics test and said $1500 for part $500 to install. Disco is actually with my daughter in the bush. Don't mind not having ABS and traction control but wonder what will happen when needs rego inspection

I think from what you have said it's a disco TD5 - hopefully I have the right car.. So I am surprised no one has said "option B". Looks under the Good Oil, read up everything you can about "the three amigoes" then do option "b" for $7 to $15 & have your error codes reset for $60 to $100 unless you find someone with a nanocom.

it worked for me & a lot of others.

    regards
    Steve

Just had a similar fault fixed in my D2. You can now just buy the switches. It cost me $250 included new switch and labour. I thought I was up for a new ABS unit.

With just the lights and no actual leakage, you have a few options. Go to the "good oil" and search 3 amigoes. Depending on our choice and ability, the repair could be as little as $25. If you are not a DIY person you will have to be prepared for the dollars in previous posts. Rego check will depend on the thorougness of the inspector.

    cheers
