    Discovery V8 to tdi

    Hi All

    I am currently looking at converting a V8 discovery to a 300tdi and was wondering if anyone has had any experience in doing this. I know I will have to change the bell housing to suite the 300tdi. What I would like to know is what else is going to have to be changed. Also what else I’m likely to need to buy. I currently have the 300tdi sitting in a defender so have access to all things currently attached to it.
    Anyway information would be appreciated.

    Youll need more than the Bellhousing , you ll need the whole R380 V8 Box !
    The input shaft on the V8 is wrong in length, wrong in spigott bearing size and is a different ratio , therefore different teeth . Seeing I want to go the other way and put a V8 in where the TDI was we should swap Gearboxes/clutches etc . LOL

    Currently the Disco is a auto although do have the r380 from the defender as well so could do the full five speed conversion i spose. I know the transfer case on the disco is taller geared in high than the defender. So unless you want auto probably not a good swap for you.

    Defender R380 is no good either, the shifter is in the wrong spot.

    Gee not looking good for me then oh well haven't actually bought the V8 yet so may reconsider my plans. Unless of course someone wants my v8 autobox in exchange for a tdi manual or auto

    There is a bloke on here I know pretty well who did exactly that, he did a full rebuild at the same time and sourced parts from UK and locally and also did a Dgas on it.

    I think the engine mountings are different and will have to be rewelded onto the chassis and engineers report,
