Hi Everyone,
Just wondering how you would go about fitting a ZF 4 speed to a two door. I am assuming there needs to be some modification as the 2 doors don't have the same set up as the later model range rovers that the box came out of.
So if anyone has done this conversion, or if its even possible please tell me so i can decide whether its worth the effort.

As mentioned, trans hump is way different. You CAN cut the floor away, and then get a sheet metal place to bend up a nice lookking cover that houses the shifter etc etc, but make sure they do a good job...or a 3" body lift can go a long way to clear the trans...

Did they actually release an auto two door with a suitable tunnel? I haven't seen one if they have.
And does anyone have some pics of a 2 door with a modified tunnel, or has one around Hobart i could have a look at?
Also Justin, do you mind if i get that trutrac sent directly to your workshop?
Not sure if there were any 2 door autos (I would assume there would have been, even if it was the chrysler 3 speed) but I reckon a 4 door tunnel would be the same, wouldn't it?
There were CSK 2 door ZF autos. Probably doesn't help you though.
I once worked on a 1985 2 door SA import. It had a 1985 phase 2 dash, 5spd, seats, rear sloping floor panel and a 'raised' floor panel for the 5 spd manual. I dare say that a 1986/7 4 door RRC floor panel may well be able to be adapted. You will need a donor wreck and cut it out, then rivet or spot weld it to the 2 door floor pan infront of the heater box etc.

IMHO it would be pretty easy and except for the tunnel a bolt in proposition.
The hardest thing would be a kickdown cable, as all ZFs were injection AFAIR.
Everything else would be bolt up. ZF, mounts, maybe new driveshafts, and the electrics to the inhibitor. Otherwise take out the clutch pedal and Bobs.

I'd be getting the floor panel off an '86 auto this is the first one with the auto and the closest floor to the 2 door.
However I'd be going for the ZF auto out of a Disco 1 with the LT230 as all the RRc with ZF autos had a Borg Warner viscous coupling transfer box. Make sure you get the brackets from the chassis to the transmission as these will line up with the holes in your chassis.
The other issue you will have is the speedo drive as the late RRc and Disco ones no longer use a cable.
