    OK so..

If I was to buy a EMS2 for fitting to a Tdi engine.

Asied from the low coolant alarm fucntion...
What things would I really want (or need) to measure
What additional sensors etc would I need.

    Thanks.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

It depends on you really. I mean there is no point in measuring anything if you don't actually understand the results. Also depends on what you are doing with the vehicle. i.e. a lot of people monitor there exhaust gas temperatures, particularly those that drive on sand. Many people end up altering there driving style once they start monitoring it. Someone who tows a lot of large loads may be interested in monitoring there tranmission oil temperature, etc.
Realistically if you are not pushing the vehicle overly hard and it's all in good working order, the only additional sensor you really need is the low coolant alarm (really this should of been a standard item on the vehicle in my opinion).
The other readings may just help you monitor the condition of your engine or driveline or alter your driving style.
For myself personally I wish to be able to monitor my engine oil pressure, transmission oil temperature, exhaust gas temperature, coolant temperature and voltage. Ideally I would like to monitor my boost pressure to, but will consider perhaps a second gauge for this or just a temporary setup.

How many temperature inputs does it have?

Check out the manufacturers website at Home Page

It has two temperature inputs - one is designed for water temperature (coolant), the other is for an oil temperature (be it engine, tranmission or gearbox).

If you check out the manufactures website, it tells you what the gauge can do straight out of the box (i.e. with everything that is included with it - so they don't require any additional sensors or hardware) - these are listed under the heading 'Out-of-the-box capability of the unit'. The items under the heading 'Full Monitoring Potential of Unit' require additional sensors. These additional sensors are available usually in a kit to suit a particular vehicle/engine, e.g. http://landyonline.co.za/shop/index....c4f038c8a10b5e .

Could also look at SCANGAUGE II. Shows 4 redouts at a time. But may not be what you are looking for.

Whilst being a very nice piece of kit, the Scangauge II is of no use to a TDi or TD5 owner .

though I'm not ure why is says 2010 on rather than 2007 on against Defender - did the engine computer change or something ?

Besides the fact that it isn't compatible with the TD5's, it is fairly limited to really only doing Trip Computer type readouts and interpreting the ECU's sensors. As it doesn't add any new sensors to the vehicle it can't provide additional information that the MadMan can. I am still suprised that Land Rover didn't fit trip computers in from factory.

I just ordered my EMS2 (the round one) and the TD5 fitting kit direct from MadMan - $420.00 delivered.
I intend to mount it in a Speco Meter 2" twin gauge holder (it's actually 7mm to big, but I intend to enlarge the hole to overcome that), next to a Speco Meter boost gauge. Was thinking of putting an engine oil temperature gauge in too (as I intend to connect the EMS to the automatic transmission), but I think that would be a bit unnecessary and starting to get too clustered and over the top.

I also ordered a Nanocom Evolution direct from Black Box Solutions ($463.00 delivered), hopefully they have stock and will be able to supply it. This will hopefully help me fix my current issue with the engines performance.
