Pricey ... what's the difference between the old EMS2 and the newer one ?
I don't know for sure, but from some of the older documentation that I have read on the Mad Man website, it would seem the original EMS2 lacked some functions that the new one has (I believe specifically in relation to coolant sensors). The current EMS2 has all the same functionality of the EMS1.
I was having a chat with jans via email and he mentioned that a new ems is on its way. The one I bought is the same as the one advertised on the website. The 'new' one due out soon has additional features to the one on the website. What these new features are was not mentioned. I assume jans is going to do a launch for the new model. I did not think that I would need any other features other than what the current model does. I'll be confused enough by it I'm sure!:D
I'd like additional temperature inputs (i.e. one for the transfer box and engine oil temperature - as my current unit monitors the automatic transmission and coolant temperatures) and an additional pressure input for boot pressure (as currently I use this for the engine oil pressure).
Also a larger screen (i.e. twice the size) would be better that shows two different readings concurrently.
But I don't need all that, just would be nice...
Hi all,
Hopefully the brand new redesigned EMS units will be in stock by the end of next week.
PM me if you need more info or pop me a mail at info@nata.net.au

Any idea on what the new one brings to the table?
I'd sort of really like it to be able to do boost and EGT - and always display EGT whilst still cycling through the other sensors (I have an older EMS2)
With regards to monitoring either gearbox or transfer case, which one works harder ie gets hotter?
Something I've looked at is this gauge MGL Infinity Engine Monitor for Rotax and Light Sport Aircraft I think it's the same as the EMS but designed for aircraft. Has some cool features and I think it could work well for a vehicle.
The E-3 can measure up to 4 EGT/CHT channels, a RPM input, a universal temperature sender input and a universal pressure sender input.
- 66 different engine setup configurations possible
- Universal, programmable rev counter (engine RPM) with digital and analog readout, with a programmable high alarm limit
- Programmable engine Hobbs meter (password protected) and running timer (flight timer) with automatic flight log
- Can monitor up to four programmable thermocouple channels for EGT and CHT probes with a user programmable high alarm limit
- A universal temperature sender input with a user programmable low and high alarm limits
- A universal pressure sender input with a user programmable low and high alarm limits
- Maximum recorded values for all measured values are stored in non-volatile memory
- High accuracy: Built in thermocouple linearization curves and cold junction compensation
- Thermocouple temperature probes can be common K,J or E type thermocouple probes
- Uses standard automotive temperature and pressure senders
- Special Rotax 912/914 engine monitor mode utilizing the standard built in Rotax NTC CHT probes
