Question One gauge to rule them all

I'd love to have gauges displaying:
    battery voltage
vacum/boost pressure (do diesel engines have vacum?)
    oil pressure
    EGT

In addition, I want a low coolant sensor alarm.

So instead of cluttering up the cabin with a bunch of mix matched devices hanging off every available bit of space, I'm hoping to find one or two devices that can perform multiple functions.

So far, I have come across the following options:

    Nanocom Evolution - :: Nanocom ::
Cons with this is that it's fairly bulky item with only a small screen and it only displays information that the vehicle has factory sensors for.

    MadMan Automotive EMS1 and/or EMS2 - Home Page
I like these. However, according to the site:
Oil/Boost/Fuel/Aux pressure with high and low alarms
I believe this therefore means that it can only do one, of the four, so if I choose for it to do oil pressure, then I will need to run a seperate gauge for boot pressure.

Any other options anyone knows of?

EMS2 can do all of your required measurements.
You just need to buy the appropriate senders.
    You can run measure:
    -batt voltage
    -EGT
    -water temp
    -low coolant alarm
    -oil pressure
    -boost pressure

Alarms and levels for each measurement, only view one at a time - easy to flick between them though.
Not sure on what vehicle you have but the 50mm gauge will fit straight into the defender dash with some dremel work.
All one gauge, easy to use, pm 'The Entertainer' Jan will sort you out!!!

So it can do two pressure readings? it's not a choice of one or the other? That's awsome news!

It's going into a Discovery, really not sure were I'll mount it. Currently thinking of getting the round one, a gauge cup mount and putting it on the bottom of the A-pillar (ricer style).

Yeah, that is the exact same site that I linked in my first post.
As per my first post, it says:

Oil/Boost/Fuel/Aux pressure with high and low alarms
To me, that statement doesn't say that the gauge can do all those functions, rather that it has the ability to display a pressure reading, and you need to decided what you want to put a pressure sensor on to get a reading for.

I have e-mailed them and will advise of the response.

Looks like the links to the manuals on the Madman site are broken, but if you search for "EMS2.pdf" in Google you'll find the user manual which gives a lot more info.

I don't see why it would make a difference as to the fuel type of the engine. It's a universal gauge, should be able to work with any/most engines. It would seem that he sells them to a lot of Japanese 4WD owners too.
Most of the functions/features of the gauge use sensors to get the signals that have to be added in and are not factory, there universal type and so will be able to go in any engine (with the right adapters of course).

I got an EMS2 from Nata enterprises, the guy is on here somewhere but I forgot his user name. I found it easy to fit (apart from tapping the manifold for the EGT - but that's another story) - came with all the senders I needed and good instructions too. Even easier to set up and use once installed.

Jan from Nata was very helpful and answered all my questions before I bought it and afterwards too. Turned around the unit from order to delivery very fast with no fuss - excellent service.

I have a nanocom Evo too but don't / wouldn't find it very helpful as an everyday instrument - too big and hard to mount where you could keep an eye on it. The EMS is great - replace the clock in a defender and it's just where you want it - the alarm feature is excellent too - you can program (easily) your own thresholds.

They are quite expensive but probably worthwhile - maybe cheaper than separate instruments - maybe not, but you couldn't easily mount that many gauges in a defender without quite a lot of work and I think ruining the look of the interior with say a dash pod. A bit of patience with a dremmel and you can make it look factory fitted with little fuss. Plus it just works in the background, no need to be scanning lots of gauges all the time - the alarm will tell you if there's an issue you should know about. The alarm is good too audible and a red LED - hard (impossible) to miss but not too intrusive as to scare you. Also records your high and low readings which may be useful.

Definitely one of the better / worthwhile mods I've done - peace of mind. Although it was initially alarming, in several senses of the word, how high my EGT readings were - I have since modified my driving style.

It will only monitor one pressure sender though - guess you can't have it all. You could put a switch over the input from two senders though and have the option to select which one you want to monitor.

    mools.

    Oh, chrisandebregc
"can they be programed for the petrol v8's as well or just diesels"
    - the instrument doesn't care petrol / diesel as it just reads the return signal from aftermarket sensors.
