I have some Kevlar matting that I used in my old Discovery. I put it over the gearbox tunnel to reduce heat transmission. Worked very well. I got it from an insulation place in the UK but I am sure you will be able to get it over here.

Anyone who has been in a 101 on a hot summers day will know it gets very hot in the cab sitting alongside the engine. The temp inside is about 10 degrees hotter than outside yet in winter this heat dissipates so inside can be a bit cold.
The engine cover is insulated but over time the heat soak from the engine get through. I have a number of options in mind - like plugging little holes and making things fit better - as well as insulation in the cab - however I want to make up an engine blanket to go over the engine and radiator so that there will be an air gap between this blanket keeping the hot air from the engine, exhausts and radiator at the sides of the engine and in the engine valley with the blanket being secured to the chassis and at various points above the engine.
I was thinking of making the blanket out of some sort of fireproof material sandwiched between two layers of the lead based insulation sheet.
However I have no idea where to buy this specialist gear - the local insulation suppliers don't know anything and the stuff on ebay may not work.
So any ideas of local suppliers would be appreciated.
Thanks
Garry.

Thermotec type this into Google or heat wrap into ebay. There are a number of products but can be quite expensive
Any one used Dynamat? Any good?
Also anyone know what the product is that has lead in it?
Thanks
Garry

Hi Garrycol, I doubt if you can buy lead based products anymore. Barium is used instead. Some years ago I bought some engine insulation from Insulation Industries in Newcastle for the same purpose in my Isuzu County. Worked well.Had a reflective coating both sides of about a 30 mm to 40 mm thickness of a fibrous material, possibly rockwool. Don't have the details anymore so I can't be more helpful.I trimmed it to the shape of the engine bay and it was stiff enough not to sag. Cheers, 130man.
There is a bit of info here and on following pages on how we went about insullation.

Thanks Erich,
I have had a look at the Thermotec site - is a bit confusing so I think I will need to find a local supplier and go and see them to discuss my issue.
Cheers

I have used dynamat extreme as a sound deadner in my D2 it works great and easy to apply, not sure what it is like as a heat insulator, I know they have a few different products, I have only used it in the doors. I bought it through Fhrx Studios - Audio / Visual Specialists Marty offers good prices and free postage which is great considering a bulk pack or similar weighs quite a few kilos.
Cheers Matt
I am also pondering noise reduction in my TD5 D2. Where did you put the Dynamat? Engine bay or cab? How did you cover entire firewall? What are the results? Any noise meter readings? (call me hopeful!)
