Not claiming to be an 'eggspurt" but I use neat Palmolive detergent as a rubber lube. It disappears quickly and doesn't affect he rubber. I also use it for tyre mounting.
Cheers!
Well today's job is replacing the radiator.
I bought all new hoses as well.
I have noticed it is quite difficult to manouver the hoses onto the fittings as they are very tight.
Is there any kind of lubricating substance that can be used to get the hoses in position but won't affect the long term seal ?
I have a small tube of water based lubricant for putting on swimming pool O'rings etc. I wasn't sure if a small bit on the fittings would work or would be detrimental ?
What do the experts do ?
Cheers

Any personal lubricant works wonders...![]()
You could try boiling some water and soaking the ends to soften them. It gives a bit more flex to slide over.
Cheers, David.

Job done.
The boiling water worked best in the end.
I prefer it as well, as it lets the hose mold onto the fitting.
I also hate those spring clips, so I replaced them screw up hose clamps.
Please don't tell me that was a bad idea !

I agree in respect of the correct tension on plastic fittings.
