I think I finally found my oil leak....

Well all along I have been moaning about an oil leak which I thought was due to the sump gasket, but upon closer inspection today I notice that there is oil weeping from the bracket to which the oil filter is attached.

    Oh..car is a 1998 300TDi Defender 130.

Looks like the oil is slowly coming down the engine mount to the back of the motor.

Is this an easy job? Any tricks to replacing the gasket?

I have always noticed a weep on the oil cooler union near the oil filter housing and I nudged it up with the spanner the other week, but is still has a drip.

I think it will be a job for after easter.

    Cheers

    Hi,

No real tricks, but there is plenty of scope for leaks in that part of the job.

If the oil is leaking out of the oil thermostat housing, use the correct o-ring from a good parts supplier. If you use one that is nearly right, it will either leak more, or break the lug off the housing and gush heaps.

There are also o-rings on pipe ends, and ditto, use the correct ones.

Another posibility is the pressure switch, which may be loose or cracked.....

    Cheers,

    Andy.
