    Silicon Hose Repair

Whilst fitting a new radiator on Sunday, I found a split in the hose from the intercooler to Turbo, I have done a temporary repair using Gaffa Tape, but can they be repaired or can you buy just one hose or do I need to replace the lot.

Could explain a slight drop in power over the last couple of weeks

    They are Samco Blue hoses.

    Baz.
    Cheers Baz.

Not sure whether you can buy a single hose. But for a repair, try Rescue Tape - Fix It All with Silicone Rescue Tape ,it is silicone and doesnt contain glue,it just bonds to its self, and will probably last longer than the hose.I keep a couple of roles in the tool box for all sorts of emergency repairs.

    They are Samco Blue hoses.

I am a bit amazed that a proper reinforced silicon hose could split. Has it got 2-3 layers of reinforcing? What do you think made it split? I couldn't imaging boost pressure splitting a ridgy didge reinforced hose.

I have had success in filling a hole with epoxy glue, where I let in a vent hose to a silicone hose.

But I would still have a look to ensure it is real before repair and replace if it doesn't have visible reinforcing at the ends.

It's a real split, without acually making it worse I did open up the split to see how far iin it had gone, and going on the thickness of the hose, it's pretty deep, probably one layer off going right through.

I'm at a lose to see how it happened, especially where the split is, my only conclusion is I have done it when removing it somehow.

If it is a straight hose or an elbow, then truck places should sell them (proper industrial silicone hoses not the "ricer" variety).

e.g. I have bought silicone hoses and elbows from Queensland Diesel Spares, Truckline and Engine Protection Equipment in the past.

It's the large S bend that has split, right in the middle of the first bend

If you mean the left one? I would see if I could replace it with 2 off the shelf elbows (i.e. a 90 and a 45) with a piece of ally pipe connecting the two.

You will probably find that the repaired bit of hose will now outlast the rest of the hoses.
I have carried Rescue tape for a couple of years now, since I first saw it demonstrated, and won't be without it in any of my vehicles.I use it for all sorts of repairs, and it makes a great insulator on electrical connections, much better than insulation tape.
