How many Ks out of a 300TDI

    Guys

How many Ks can I expect to get out of a well serviced 300TDI? Mine currently has 315 000Ks on it

....and how long is a piece of string ??

if correctly maintained, 300tdis certainly have a reputation for longevity...and for accepting an extra amount of boost & fuel with no damage

.. some experts counsel precautionary head gasket changes around 200000kms - many users have had them last at least twice as long as that before anything major was required

The 3 that I know well are around the 200000-400000km mark with no obvious signs of wear, coolant loss or oil consumption to date, but have had appropriate coolant system maintenance and timing belt changes.

Be aware that many servicing mechanics just do not appear to understand LRs - so find an experienced LR place or learn to do it yourself.

    1 million

My father has his 95 disco 300Tdi at the 900,000 kilometre mark at the moment. Only water pumps, timing belts and generally serviced every 5000. Head has never been off. They can be very reliable if not over heated and serviced correctly.

    Cheers,

I was originally looking at a D3 but the cost of repairs. I keep looking at the old girl (97), she has never let me down in the 11 odd years I've had her and the few parts I have replaced were minor.

I know her full history and she has always been fully serviced both auto box and motor, mostly by L/R mechanics. But that 315 000K has me asking, I suppose its more than a motor as well, I mean the whole car has done the Ks not just the motor but the 300TDI has a good rep. Sourccing parts may be a future issue. but I do luv to drive the old girl especially in the bush!!!
Is there a point in Ks that I could expect a major overhaul?

3 in our fleet are at around 280-300000 K with one at 420000K.

I've replaced the water pump twice, the first one was bodgy and the vacum pump. The rest was normal services, tyres, break pads and bloody door springs! they are the biggest headache.

    Good name by the way!!

87County what do you mean by accepting an extra amount of boost & fuel because I tow a 1200 kg pop top and a little bit more power would be great!!!!

you could always convert the TD5 to a TDI300!! I watched a video the other day were the put a TDV6 2.7 into a TD5 body but I'm suspicious of a new engine type that is already cheaper in the UK that an earlier engine type, that doesn't add up.

Great talking to you and have a great and safe easter
