It will be interesting to see how the V6 goes! It should make TDV6 motors easier to get

When were the issues, was it at the beginning when the motor first came out in the D3 or are these issues still happening with later models?

Check the history of the engine:

I work with LR, Jaguar & Peugeot. They all have models with this engine but LR seems to have the majority of the problems with them.

I would like to think this is because they sell more cars with the TDV6 than the others, but I'm rather more cynical than that.

So what you dont want to actually say is wait for a TDV6 territory or pug to be written off to get a better quality engine to fit to our earlier defenders/RRC's etc. rather than a d3/ base d4 TDV6 2.7L?

Interesting family, is the difference between the 2.7 and 3.0 the number of turbos?

.. Would that mean that a TDV6 from a Pug or Exploder will bolt up to my RR Classic auto trans ?

Wondering, 'cos I've heard good things about it, especially regarding fuel use. - Even better than the 300

    - We live in hope... or fantasy-land.

Actually the easier thing may be to find a way to hook up low range to the ford gearbox as if they put it in the territory it wont have anywhere near as much electronic contraptionary hooked up with terrain response being a LR thing so you may be able to just take the engine and gearbox as a whole straight out of a rear ended write off and adapt a low range trasfer case for a fantasyland RRc/ defender
Also if rumors are true the 4.4 TDV8 from the Rangie will be in the Fat100 series by mid year so once the seppo's write a few of them off we may get a cheap supply of fantsy TD! They sell around 650,000 f models a year so even if they only put 10% out as diesel thats still around 60,000 4.4 rangie diesel engines.

That would be a lot of work but I suspect the only differences are the gearbox ECU software - the D3S in standard form does not have Terrain Response so that would be the pick.

The TDV6 is quite reliable, there were recalls for the high pressure pumps, have seen afew fail outside the recalls, but fuel quality must be good for any common rail fuel system, or pumps will fail.

The vacuum oil pump issue had to do with the one way valve at the booster allowing oil into the booster, the pump itself wasn't the issue.

EGR system does play up from time to time, If I was to have one I would just block them off.

I have heard word of someone developing a stand alone ECU for the TDV6 so as long as you want to make the mounting brackets and adaptors you can fit them to anything!!
