Something fell out while Changing the Oil..

    Hi folks,

My Defender TD5 has lost power days back and i have being wrecking my brains out. Engine in idle seems chokey and the rpm cant seem to rise as fast as it used to. difficulty during moving off in 1st gear and i can only travel at 4th gear.. in 5th gear, the gear shift rattles a whole bunch. inclines are a strain.

the choky idle happens either when i start the engine or after ive travelled for abit.

this is what i have done so far and due to my locality theres no diagnostic aid.

    1. changed Air filter
    2. changed Fuel filter
    3. Turbo seems fine as the suction's still strong
    4. Reset my ECU (batt disconnected for like an hr i think thats how its done)
    5. check the ecu harness for oil on both ends(was fine)
    6. Replace Airflow sensor with a known working sensor

while doing the above change. i had my mechanic change the oil as well and something fell out together with the oil. im not sure if its the caused but im real nervous at the moment

Im trying to contact LR uk tech support to send them a picture but there isnt an email at all.

Ive looked through the workshop manual and nothing seems remotely like it. Hope you folks can assist or maybe know a way i could contact LR UK factory tech.

Im hoping to not resort to having the mechanic tear up the engine if its just a freak component that was inside, cause its gonna cost quite a bit and right now. im in between jobs.

heres the pics, do apologise if it isnt the best quality.. took it via my cell.

    mystery object

    Hi At

I went through the parts manual and found nothing that size, that looks even vaguely like it.
My guess that it is a pawl or ratchet from a ratchet wrench or torque wrench.
Good luck ! I hope the rest of the wrench isn't still in the sump.

    Cheers Arthur

I'm with Arthur,it looks like direction toggle from a ratchet. Is the exhaust clear on your Td5?,unbolt the engine pipe and see if it rev's freely. Pat

    I'm with Arthur too.
Only thing I can think off that might be the same is the valve rockers.
