Hey folks,
Just a quick turbo question, on behalf of a friend. Was there much difference between the turbos used on the 2.5 Turbodiesel and those on the 200Tdi? I have a friend whose 2.5 turbodiesel has been a bit of a handful for her through many years of fieldwork in East Africa and she's now got a quote for US $900 to rebuild the turbo (in Nairobi). She may be able to get her hands on a turbo from a 200Tdi instead, and wants a bit of advice on what she might do. I'm a bit of a fan of 200s, but don't have any experience with the older TD engines...
Thanks,
John
If I recall correctly the 2.5 has the same turbo as the TGV and is different to the turbo on what we call the tdi200 and the tdi300.
However...
Im pretty sure that it wouldnt take much work to make it bolt up providing you got the manifolds to go with it.

Thanks Dave. I guess they can make the swap.... Not knowing much about turbos, I also wasn't sure about the plumbing and how the models might differ in boost, bearing in mind that if she gets the job done in Tanzania the bloke doing it will most likely have even less understanding of turbos than I do. The mob up in Nairobi are much more likely to be better-trained.
I've been trying to influence her for years to dump the TD and just bung a 200Tdi in the vehicle, anyway....
Thanks,
John
