There is Diesel specific injector cleaners.
I use injector cleaners on a semi regular routine, and always have better fuel economy for at least that tankful I use it on.
When I use to get the TD5 serviced at the stealers they would always put injector cleaner in as part of the service so to me it means that it must be safe.

WOW, that is a brave assumption. Did you buy the oil additive also?

Probably it is OK but IMHO a dealer would be thinking more of the 100% margin on the product than its safety.

EG dealers also sell upholstery sealer and paint protection which is either useless or overpriced by a factor of 7 or so.

    Wink there is an alternative

You can make injector fuel bla bla combustion chamber cleaner by looking at the msds sheets to find out what is in them 60 to 80% shellite the rest ipa not ethanol but ipa and for a lube for the pump some 2 stroke as it does lube quite well and is engineered to burn well.

A good mate that works for Mercedes in northern germany as a engineer puts a litre of petrol in a full tank of diesel every month.

When they get a motor back that had issues as engines are no longer re-built in general, they do engine analysis and he did same to an engine he had to see if the petrol had any -ve impact on the head or bores etc. apparently it was very clean. Car was a A class 180 diesel. He put motor back together and gave car to his daughter that now runs Bio diesel with a tad extra methanol. Last I heard it had done over 200k kms as she runs up and down autobahn everyday for work.

Anyhow, a tad of petrol has not hurt his motor and he swears by it.
    Cheap injector cleaner I say.

My wifes Golf also gets a bottle of cleaner after every service and so did my D1.

Still runs perfect after many km's.

I'll dig it up one day but my diesel Merc owners manual actually recommended adding petrol to the diesel (surprisingly high concentrations too) and "accelerate briskly" to clear any fouling.

I have once put about 2 litres of unleaded into a full tank of diesel in my 300Tdi and you certainly knew it was in there.

The cost of diesel additives is a bit over the top.
I used a bottle of the stuff every 3-4th tank to keep things "clean"
My fuel figures most definitely improved when i used it for the first time after purchasing a 240,000k TD5.
If you use additives it would appear to raise the diesel fuel premium by another 10 cents a litre.
If petrol is $1.40 diesel might be $1.50-$1.55 + additive (10 cents)

Bit of a premium there for running a diesel.

Whilst out in Longreach on Anzac Day I heard a road train driver talking about adding Kero to his fuel tank. I did not have time to ask any questions. Responses anyone ?????
