    Comparing td5/puma against new hilux

    Hey guys
Whilst I was talking to someone the other day about diesel tuning and chips for the newer age diesels he said without pushing the new hilux common rail diesel to any dangerous limits at all he could get 140Kw AT THE WHEELS (around 190Hp) and over a bit over 600Nm of torque mods included chip, exhaust and modified turbo and he said this still has alot of room left for improvement still to come... Was wondering what power figures some people have seen or have with td5's and pumas or tdi's for that matter ?

Ps: isuzus will be left out of this thread due to everything else not even being in the running

Of course you are comparing older landie engines with the newer Hilux. A standard 2.7TDV6 puts out 140kw without chipping and the 3.0 TDV6 puts out 180kw - both engines manage another 40kw when chipped leaving the Hilux in their wake.

My brother has a Hilux bought new in December - in standard form it is quite a dud and my brother now regrets selling his old 3.2 Triton - on the road the Triton is the better performer but on paper the Hilux is better. The hilux also rides worse than my 101 and his family constantly sooks when they are in it as a result.

The Hilux like most toyota engines are also rans. My other bro has a new V8 diesel cruiser and he had to have it chipped to get it to perform.

My 2.7TDV6 RRS - though weighing more than both Toyotas easily out performs both despite the RRS having the smallest engine.

Of the L/R vehicles (engines) you listed, really only the Puma is relevant and would produce similar outputs to the Hilux though a well tuned/chipped TD5 would give a standard or chipped Hilux a run for its money.

I had a laugh once when a guy I was working with told me straight out that he had a mate who had a supercharged 4.5 petrol landcruiser that had 520hp at the wheels without any other work done other than bolting the blower on.My D4D hilux was chipped to give 135kw or there abouts and at no time did it feel it had anything like that. What he considers dangerous limits and what toyota consider dangerous limits are clearly very different things.

    Reheheallly?

How's John getting on with his approx 200kw build?

Or would the prize be sufficient to ship the go-fast parts of Randy's compound turbo Isuzu in the US?

Shipping alone would make a race with my Isuzu a bit of a problem (different country and all that). Mine's not that quick anyway, about 17 seconds to 100km/h.

How about an internet race? Post up your dynolicious printouts. Stock TD5 90 is supposed to be just under 18 seconds according to these guys:
Car: Land Rover Defender 90 2.5 TD5 Country
