			disco fuel pump/relay issue

sooo ive recently bought a disco v8i 1992..

when i bought it (cheap) you had to turn the key on and off a couple times (sometimes for a couple minutes) untill a yellow lamp flashes up for a millie second on the dash and then the fuel pump kicks in and primes, then it will start..

its gotten worse lately and then today it packed it in...

-i changed the relay
-tested power getting to the relay
-when testing blue wire in relay it kicks the pump in, but wont start still.
-checked battery cables
-checked starter earth.

is there a earth from the ignition switch to relay? or i dunno
just cant even get the relay to click (unless testing)

please help! its sitting infront of the door at work and needs to mooove!!

					Is the fuel pump OK?
You need to isolate if its a elecrical or pump issue.

You didn't hear this from me right
You would need to check with others if this can be done on fuel injected motors.

If it's not fuel injected I've bypassed the realy in the past.
You can remove the relay and join the 2 terminals to allow the pump to run.
Terminal 30 and 87 I think.
Only tempary to get it moving though not a daily driving fix.

cheers dude but its fuel injected... is it possible to convert to a carb? thats for another day forget it!

i can get it to wind over when i earth 85 terminal...
so i presumed it was something that negativly switches the relay??

what i could gather from the diagram was there is something inbetween the relay and pump?

The ECU earths the relay for 3 seconds when you turn the IGN switch to ON. then stops and restarts as soon as 450RPM is registered.

This is to stop flooding.

You should be able to hear the pump start then stop in three seconds and hear a click from the relay. You should not turn to Start until you hear the relay click and the pump go off.

The yellow light is probably the check engine light which is not connected in Australian cars but usually flashes when you turn on.

The most likely problem is that the fuel pump has died, then it is that the relay has died. A surge protected relay is about $10-15 from Repco or whatever. The next possiblity is that there is a poor connection along the line between the relay and the fuel pump. I don't think there is anything more except a connector above the tank, which can get corroded.
Regards Philip A
