I have a current model defender. I have been setting it up for "adventure", and I would like to be confident to wade through water is required.
I notice Mantec do wading kits, and I want to know how nesecary these sort of mods are, and how limited I might be without them. I see lots of pics of dudes pushing through deep water. Do these guys generally have wading kits installed?![]()
what does the 'wading kit' consist of? I've done plenty of deep water crossings without a snorkel.
So, Im thinking I'll extend the breather from the diff. I dont want to drown the vehicle, but want to cross maybe up to 750mm. The 500mm seems just a little risky to me. I've heard some say they would not worry about the gearbox - its the diff that mostly will take water. Not sure what other componentry is generally at risk and would need an extended breather on a Puma? - yes it already has a Safari Snorkel. Its anything else that might be at risk, that I'm worried about. Any more advice would be good.
McBrain, do you have any mods at all for deep water, and what sort of depth are you saying you are confident of going through? I'm assuming we are talking about Deefers.
Check he connections between snorkel and air filte box are watertight. Also check drain hole in air filter box is plugged.
On my last ute ARB installed a snorkel and if I;d driven it in deep water it would have done no good at all.

Snorkel, diff breathers, & timing case plugs at least.
Gearbox plug will help in the long run getting that muddy water out - there can be a cupful.
And check the snorkel is watertight - a lot aren't. Try & stall the engine by blocking the snorkel air.
